The Best Moments of the 2016 Golden Globes

The 76th Annual Golden Globe Awards was a star-studded event that had everyone talking. From the fashion to the television and films awarded, there was a lot to have an opinion on. Wishbone voters covered the event to share what was the best of the best at the 2016 Golden Globe Awards.

Our Favorite Red Carpet Host

If you’re looking for red carpet coverage of the big award shows, your go to is always the E! network. No one hosts quite like Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana Rancic. Both work the charm with the A-list stars while still able to keep the conversation short for commercial breaks. We love both but Ryan gets a bit more votes for that dimpled smile and his banter skills.

Dazzling in Gold

Kate Hudson, a red carpet extraordinaire, had a Michael Kors Collections dress unlike any other. The hint of shimmer and midriff had Kate looking both sultry and magnetic. Golden Globe winner Brie Larson also rocked the golden shimmery look in a Calvin Klein dress meant to impress. It was the detailing and unique cut of Brie’s dress that had voters idolizing her look more than Kate’s.

Pretty in Pink

Pop sensation and a presenter at the Golden Globes Katy Perry looked like a femme fatale in Prada. With the weave in place, and hefty cleavage, Katy was full on ready to strike a pose alongside the movie stars. Cate Blanchett looked ever sophisticated in a pink Givenchy adorned with both lace and tassels. On paper this would sound like a weird combination but Givenchy has the right touch to make Cate’s look one-of-a-kind yet stylish. However, our hat goes off to Katy for excelling at a red carpet event that was not in her field.

The Tux of Our Dreams

Presenters Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt had our undivided attention as they bickered and melted our hearts during the Golden Globe Awards. Ryan was dashing in his white coat tux and Brad reminded us how devilishly handsome he was by finally shaving off the weird beard and cutting his long hair. Ryan, however, stole the limelight with his sarcasm and wit on stage. Call us when you’re single, Ryan.

Uniquely Simple

Golden Globe nominee Gina Rodriguez wore a Zac Posen gown, Jimmy Choo heels, and Neil Lane jewels. Gina looked sweet and ready to be sung praises as the belle of the ball. Eva Longoria wore a white Georges Hobeika dress with beautiful floral designs and a sexy but conservative slit. While Eva is always a stunner in the fashion world, voters enjoyed Gina’s take on the Cinderella look.

Feeling Dapper

Oh, Leo. The things we would do for you. Golden Globe winner and most popular meme of the night, Leonardo Dicaprio looked nothing but classy in a black tailored suit and bow tie with those locks we love slicked back. Golden Globe nominee Liev Schreiber look quite handsome as well in a black two-buttoned suit with a black tie and white hankie. But our hearts and eyes will always go to Leo. We never have and never will let go of our love for that man.

How to Shine

Regina King looked like a golden hero in a Krikor Jabotian gown that included a cape with Coomi jewelry and Rene Caovilla heels. Yet another shimmered look, notice a theme here at the Golden Globes red carpet, Viola Davis wore a blue and silver Marchesa gown that won voters over.

Power Couples:

Round 1

All good things come in double, as do these power couples. Will Smith and Channing Tatum looked ever handsome in classic tuxedos and let their wives do all the dazzling. Jenna Dewan-Tatum went for an elegant look in a Zuhair Murad designed gown. Jada Pinkett Smith wore a green Atelier Versace dress with a thigh-high slit and paired it with green Jimmy Choo heels. Not many people can work the monochromatic look but Jada did it with ease. The Tatums won this battle of the couples for the beautiful detail and style of Jenna’s gown that had everyone abuzz, especially after her and Channing’s epic Lip Sync Battle performances.

Power Couples:

Round 2

Another pair of glamorous couples that had us screaming couple goals. Jennifer Lopez looked stunning alongside boyfriend Casper Smart in a yellow Giambattista Valli gown, Jimmy Choo heels, and Harry Winston jewels. We’ve seen this dress on the runway but not like this. Jenny from the Block knows how to accessorize a dress to bring out the best of the ensemble. Olivia Wilde in the burgundy sparkled Michael Kors Collection dress looked like effortless glam. Her bae Jason Sudeikis went all out in a gray tux but we weren’t feeling the sneakers. It may have been the reason that JLo and her boy toy got a slight edge with voters.

Hollywood Glam

Jennifer Lawrence looked absolutely flawless in red Dior Couture with the beautifully accessorized Chopard jewelry. The form fitting dress was unique with its structure and cutouts yet was nostalgic of a classic Hollywood look. Julianne Moore shimmered in a blue Tom Ford dress that did wonders for her figure and complimented her fiery red hair. Both ladies stunned the red carpet but Jennifer won this battle, no question.

The Hair Sweep

The talk of the night was Channing Tatum’s hair and it seemed many were not feeling it. Some have even characterized the look as “emo” and straight up an unacceptable look on their favorite former stripper. The fact that votes went 50-50 between his hair or Justin Bieber’s side-sweep locks is not a good thing. Both were despised. Just equally.

Our Favorite Golden Globes Host

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler go together like peanut butter and jelly. Hosting the Golden Globes two years in a row, they were able to be funny and edgy with their jokes without causing scandal. The funny, yet sometimes off-putting, thing about Ricky Gervais is that he really doesn’t care who he offends. His jokes can be hilarious and quite mean at the same time. This made Tina and Amy the favorites for voters. However, they’ve called back Ricky to host the Globes a total of four times so who’s really the winner?

The Most Deserving Winner

It was a startling yet exciting moment to see Lady Gaga win a Golden Globe for her role in “American Horror Story.” Once the eccentric pop star, Lady Gaga has gone for a much more polished sense of style and it seems to be going well for her. Jennifer Lawrence picked up yet another Globe for yet another film with Dave O. Russell. And frankly, the actress might get a lot of heat for her casual demeanor but her talent speaks for itself. We can’t deny that we were rooting for her and cheered her on when she walked on that stage. And also secretly proud she didn’t trip on the walk over this time.

The After Party Style

The party isn’t over when the awards end, rather, they just begin. Many who attended the event go for wardrobe changes while stars who were absent for the awards doll up for the after parties. Both Selena Gomez and Kylie Jenner went for an ethereal look. Selena wore an off the shoulder J. Mendel gown that proved you can stand out with simplicity. Kylie’s La Bourjoisie ensemble was a delicate look which is different than her usual outfits of choice. Although she looked stunner, Selena’s simple look gave the appearance of true poise and grace that had people voting her way.
